I heard of using paper mache over balloons of different sizes also clay works well just mold it the size of bone you need and paint it.
From what I remember of that one, the bones were not fakeThey were from a mixture of human and ape and had been ground down to fit with each otherThey were then chemically agedYep, the scientists were duped and stayed duped for yearsThere were some who questioned it though but I think it took 40 years before the proper testing happened to point out that they were fakesThere are ideas on who did it but I think it was done more for professional gain rather than religiousEither that or it was done to play a joke on someone and it got out of hand.
