Question:

Should i peruse a preforming arts degree?

I know getting a preforming arts degree isn't fully necessary when it comes to becoming an actor, but i feel like i need the extra training. the thing is i am not sure my family can afford to send me to a college that offers that. they are too rich for financial aid but too poor to pay for it all. Plus they are still paying off my older sisters loans. Another problem is i dont really think i need all of the contemporary classes, i want to act not be a math teacher thank you very much! Another problem is i have taken the ACT a billion times and always get low scores on it. I just cannot answer questions that fast. The only classes i have made As in is the acting classes i have been taking. I am also really good in creative writing! those are my passions, but there are so many things in my way. what should i do? my senior year starts in two weeks and i still do not have a plan for after high school. most of my friends are already set, i certainly am not!

Answer:

You should concentrate on what you do best. You may become a screen writer or an author. Actors I know put their parent through a lot of expense and ended up in local theatre and entertaining children. Not many people have what it takes or are in the right place at the right time. Many former actors have ended up broke when the work dried up. Is there a school in your area that specialises in Drama or the Arts? I would stick with writing for a career.
