Sims 2 question? How do i make the elevator have an exit at each floor?

i am making a large house on the sims 2 which has a basement 1st floor and second floorI have made an elevator in the base a shaft on the 1st floor and an elevator on the 2nd floorMy sims cannot get off at the 1st floor they just go from the basement to the 2nd floorTo make them stop off at the 1st floor do i have to make the part on the 1st floor an elevator instead of the shaft or what?
