You should use 60 or eighty on the rust whether it is fairly within the metal,a hundred should do for the paint.And if the rust just isn't unhealthyUse like a 320 to feather the edges where the metal meets the paint 320 must delicate out the metallic from the eighty grit paper and feather the restThen use a 600 or 800 before the primer, after is all painted use 2000 grit moist sanding to get a shine againUse sharpening compound then swirl remover then a wax after you use the 2000 gritThat is alot of labor to do
