Question:

So I just became a registered sex offender?

I need help. My friend sent me a link to what he said was a really funny video but the page says Thank you for participating in our ongoing investigation. Your name, address and phone number have all been recorded and I backed out before I read the rest. What do I do now? Is this real? Are the cops gonna come busting through my door any second? Help me!

Answer:

In my city it is $250 for a false alarm, ut if you call the alarm company or directly to the firehouse that serves your area, you can usually call it off and avoid the charge. Where I used to live, they would waive the fee on the first occasion, but here they aren't that generous.
Thanks for the extra details. I think I've got it! Quite simply, they mark exact points which may be used by maintenance crews for various purposes. When they are doing surveys of the integrity of the road, they will usually use these as start/end points. They may also mark where responsibility of the road changes, changes between police forces, or changes in the construction of the road. In short, it could be many things that only the Highways Agency (or equivalent) need to know. I was thrown because they are supposed to use painted white dots for this purpose, but apparently metal studs were used until the 1980s and still haven't been replaced in some regions.
