I LOVE to knit socks, but I'm veganDoes anyone know of a sock yarn that does not contain wool or any other animal product? For those who don't know, good sock yarn is normally some kind of wool, cashmere, alpaca, etc and 25% minimum nylonAs a vegan I can't, or at least won't, use animal productsAnyone know of a sock weight knitting yarn that doesn't contain animal products?
use baby shampoo, woolite is garbageif it is a large wool item I have put such in a pillow case with 2 or 3 towels to fill up machine and let it sit on soak for a while, will push the load around to make sure , then will rinse in cold water twice( machine spins the water out better since my hands can not handle the cold any more) a lite touch of cream rinse in the last rinse helps the wool.vanilla or lavender is one of my tricksHave knitted socks and sweaters for many yearslay flat and roll up to get the moisture out of the item, dry flat.
If your wool is 100% wool, with no synthetic mixed in it, the when you come to put the socks in the washing machine you will find they will shrink to half the sizeThat is the reason if when you want to felt anything, then you use 100% woolYour socks just might turn out just the right size for a babyOn the other hand if you are willing to wash them by hand in just warm water they should be fineOf course you have the added benefit then, that wool is much warmer in the cold weatherC.
