Question:

Sodium metal + Aluminum Foil + Water - ?

In my experiment I placed Sodium metal into a ball of aluminum foil, poked holes in it and emersed it into a beaker of waterWhat is the balanced chemical equation for this? Would it be the sodium and water react first, to produce NaOH and then the NaOH reacts with aluminum or what? All help is appreciated?

Answer:

buy the smallest house and get the one with a walk in wardrobe.
Both of those houses sound ridiculously big so neither, but seeing as I don't want to live across the street from my parents and I'd like a greenhouse I'll pick option 2
Yes, you have it rightThe sodium will react with the water very quickly, leaving a solution of NaOH for the Al to react with more slowlyThe equations are: 2 Na + 2 H2O → 2 NaOH + H2 2 Al + 6 NaOH → 3 H2 + 2 Na3AlO3
