Some materials are magnetic and others are not. How can we determine an object is magnetic experimentally?

Answer:

the compass would work, another way would be to simply expose the material to a posive magnetic field, then a negative magnetic field. If the mateial is magnetic, it will respond to one or the other field. A visual response would indicate magnetism.
Use a compass. When a compass is placed overtop of a magnet or a magnetic object, it points either north or south, telling whether or not the pole is a north or a south pole (positive or negative).
That's an obvious one ! Simply pour 13 gallons of chocolate pudding over object to be tested and then bark. If the object is magnetic it will be, unless of course it isn't.
