Question:

Stick Shift and Automatic Transmission?

How does a manual differ from an automatic transmission when changging gears in a vehicle also how can I tell if it is an auto or not?

Answer:

The automatic shifts automatically The manual shifts manually The way to tell if a car has a manual or an auto$#!***Good God, just forget about it. If you don't know what the difference is, I suggest you stay away from cars. Oy!
Stick Shift: Car has a clutch pedal and must be shifted by hand. Also called a manual transmission. Automatic Transmission: There is no clutch pedal. There is a D for drive on some kind of shifting device. When the car is in Drive mode, it shifts by itself. Don't try this: If you are in a car and you start out and it shifts by itself, its an automatic. If you are in a car and you start out and at 25 miles per hour the engine is screaming and the car doesn't shift. Its a manual. But don't try to figure it out this way!!! P.S. The only cars I have seen with clutchless manual transmissions are luxury sports cars (like BMW, Lexus or Infinity) built in the last five years.
auto transmission switches gears automaticaly and all you have to do it keep giving gas. manual requires you to switch gears. on manual you would have to step on clutch let off gas, change gears, give gas and let of clutch. sometimes you dont need a clutch for instance my BMW has a no clutch manual (and automatic)
