In November, I broke my foot at the fifth metatarsalIt was a quot;mid-shaft fracture.quot; When they sent me home from the ER, they gave me a splint and a pair of crutches to get me through the weekendI couldn't put any pressure on it at all. When I went to the orthopedist, they gave me a giant boot and told me to use the crutches for two weeks and then start to walk normally with the boot.I was in the boot from November 5th until sometime towards the end of FebruaryIt still hurt to do some things, but they told me it'd pass eventually and I'd be fine, so they put me back in gym class and took away my elevator passIt still hurt a lot of the time, but I figured it would pass. It's now almost the end of August and as time goes on, it just gets worse and more frequentSince I'm going to college in two weeks and I'll be walking around a lot more, I don't know what I should do about it.Is recurring pain common with this type of fracture or should I call my doctor?
If I were you, I would see your doctor for what he/she thinks is best for you and your body.

Get checked for arthritis in your footI broke the exact same bone in mine in high school and it hurt for a couple years afterIt is still tender every once in a whileThe dr said I did not have arthritis, but it sure did ache afterwardsAnd like someone else mentioned, that other thing that could go wrongAnd they told you 2 weeks? I think I went about 4-6 weeks on my crutchesWhen I walked on it too soon, it sure did hurt the very next day, and I was back on the crutches after having learned my lessonYour college should be handicap acessible and have elevators; if not, ask the people who house you for something more accomodating, after all, you are paying money to them to go thereWhen I was in high school, I learned how to go up and down stairs with 1 crutch and use the stairs as another crutchWhen I could walk again, long distances and cold water were still hurting meIf it's nothing serious, it could just take a few years to go away, if nothing else happens to itCould be the muscles, ligaments, tendons are really sore and achy from use if not injuredIf so, you might need a physical therapist, heat therapy, and some OTCsP.SI remember hearing about someone else whose bone did not heal right, and she had to go get it rebrokenOUCH! Make sure it healed well.
