When is a good time to move a toddler into a toddler bed? My daughter is 17 months old and climbs out of her crib so she cosleeps with me. I have a toddler bed do you think she is old enough?
I put my son in a twin bed when he was 15 months. He wasn't climbing out of his crib yet and I didn't want him to start. I decided it was time and okay because he was fine jumping or slidding off of my bed and could climb into it just fine. He wasn't sleeping very well in his crib but would sleep just fine in my bed. I finally decided it might just be because he didn't like the crib mattress. Once we put up the twin be (and I got a stool so he could climb in it easier cause he's a little short), he slept in it just fine and loved it. I never even got around to putting up the guard rail, as far as I know he's never fallen out of it and he's almost 3. Use your best judgement. I also put a child lock on the inside of his door so he couldn't get out of his room in the middle of the night and hurt himself. If you don't think you are ready to switch just yet, one thing my sister in law has for her son is a crib tent. The new ones are pretty cool and just lines the crib and has a tent looking thing on the top (all mesh) and zips up so they can't get out of it. Good luck.
If she is climbing out of the crib, then she is old enough. I transitioned my daughter when she was 15 months old. She does great! We have to place a baby gate in her doorway, though, so that she won't roam the house in the middle of the night.
my 18 month old son still sleeps in a crib because he won't stay in a toddler bed...but if your daughter is climbing out I would say its time to try a toddler bed, just make sure it has a safety rail on all sides. GL :)
We switched our daughter over at 16 mos. when she started trying to climb out of her crib. We skipped the toddler bed and put her in a twin size bed. We didn't use any rails. Her mattress actually sits on the floor between the bedrails so if she did fall out, she didn't fall far. She's only fallen out 2 or 3 times. She does really well with it and now refuses to go into a crib or a pack n play. We skipped the bed rails because they are going to have to learn to sleep without them eventually. You always run the risk of them falling out after you removed the bedrails. My husband and I didn't have bedrails, nor did our parents. Personal choice I suppose. Hope this helps. Good luck.
My daughter was 18 mo. when we moved her to a big girl bed. We just skipped over the toddler bed and went straight to a full sized bed with rails. We figured why spend the money on two beds? Anyway, we got her really excited by talking about her 'big girl bed' for a week. On the day we moved her to the bed, she helped me make the bed by pulling on the sheets, placing the pillows, etc. She has slept better in that bed than in her crib! She loves it and is so excited to show people the bed when they come over.
