I put 1 qt of transmission fuiled to the torque converter and 4 qts to the transmission. Is this enought for the for the torque converter. The book I found said the transmission takes 8 qts. So how much more should I add?
That is like saying why do we need oxygen? Hello! Come on! What do you think? We do need car alarms like we need oxygen. Yep!
so it alerts the owner of an intruder so less snatching and crimes
add three more let it run for a minute and check it .add untill its full on the dipstick if you need to.then try to shift in drive and reverse.if it goes in gear ok,drive around the block and check it again.shut it off and dont drive for about ahalf hour.start and check it again, you dont want the transmission real hot when you check it
If the book says eight then that would mean 8 total, including the converter. So you now have 5 qts. I would just start the car and let it idle in park until it warms up. The converter will draw any additional fluid it needs from the transmission. Once warm, check the dipstick and add enough to bring it to the full mark on the dipstick.
First off, don't listen to BenH, a transmission needs to be hot in order to get an accurate reading. In our shop, with that tranny being installed after being rebuilt, our fill procedure is as follows, 1-put in 4 quarts 2-start vehicle, add another 3 quarts 3. move shifter through all ranges to charge all the hydraulic circiuts 4. check level and add until it's at the bottom of the cross hatch, the reason for the bottom of the crosshatch is because at this point, the tranny is still cold. If you fill it to the full mark at this stage, it will be overfull when it gets hot. 5. run the trans thru the gears on the hoist to be sure every thing works 6 roadtest vehicle allowing it to get hot 7. double check level after road test and fill as required to get to the top of the crosshatch/full mark Then you are golden!!!!!
