Question:

The best-selling women's magazines are 'Better Homes and Garden's' and 'Family Circle'. As their titles...

...imply they are about home and family and children. The best selling men's magazines are Playboy and Maxim. They are about the good life...fun, toys, and access to beautiful women without commitment. If you carry these choices to the logical end where they represent men's and women's primary fantasies, then for men marriage means sacrificing their primary fantasy and for women, marriage means fulfilling it. Anyone care to comment?

Answer:

Yes...I think you are right on target. men don't commit, they surrender. But in my husband's case, he may have sacrificed access to beautiful women (if indeed he COULD get anyone more beautiful than me!) but he says stability and family are most important, fun and extras come next. Interesting observation...you're very insightful!
The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more.
If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to.
Hmmm . . . maybe you're right to a point. But I'd never read either of those women's magazines you mentioned. I prefer magazines like Bee and Ms. Not all women are about the home and the family anymore. My primary fantasies are work and occasional sex. After reading The Feminine Mystique religiously, even though it's 43 years outdated, I've decided that marriage and children just aren't my cup of tea.
Good question, here are my thoughts: If we go back to prehistoric times, the same thing would apply. I think that it's in a woman's nature to be more interested in homes and families. Once she is pregnant, she's essentially taken out of the running. She carries the baby for nine months and then spends the next decade or so raising it. It's only natural for her to be more concerned with family, homes, and a stable environment. Men on the other hand have the ability to go wham bam, and take off running. They aren't stuck with any responsibilities. Both sexes would have been concerned with passing along their genetics, but while women would have been more concerned with commitment, men would have been more interested in landing themselves as many fertile young 'uns as possible. I think this carries through to today. However, society dictates that a man should be faithful and committed to his wife. I think those kinds of magazines simply appeal to a primitive instinct within men. Oooh, one more thought. I don't think men read books in the same way women do. They're more visual, and so magazines like Playboy are the result. But have you ever read a woman's romance novel?! Talk about erotica. I think magazines just appeal more to the way a man's mind works...
