Question:

Tiptronic Transmission?

Can somebody please explain how to drive TIPTRONIC transmission?

Answer:

This automatic transmission has all of the same advantages and technical features (dynamic shift program (DSP), Keylock, Shiftlock) as the 4-speed automatic transmission (automatic transmission, 4-speed, with dynamic shift program). All gear changes with the 5-speed automatic tiptronic transmission occur without any interruption of engine power. This is particularly advantageous when towing a trailer. Tiptronic permits override of the automatic mode by moving the selector lever into a second shift gate and permits, for example, downshifting in twisting, downhill mountainous terrain to increase the braking effect of the engine or for a more sporty driving style. The continuous display of the gear selected in the instrument panel is just as much of a driving aid as the optional sport steering wheel or the multifunction leather-covered steering wheel which permits the hands to stay on the steering wheel. The 5-speed tiptronic transmission has wider gear ratios that reduce fuel consumption and increase driving comfort. On many models this transmission has an additional “Sport” program that delays up-shifting for a more sporty driving style.
