Question:

To Kill a Mockingbird question?

So I have a question about the book To Kill a Mockingbird. You know the part where Miss Maudie‘s house catches on fire? Well, what was the point of that part? And why were the neighbors going into the house and pushing all the furniture out? I‘m really confused. Also, (yeah i know, this will probably be a stupid question. But i‘m curious.) why is the book called To Kill a Mockingbird? Will it tell me straight out at the end of the book? I already got past the part where it said that it was a sin to kill a mockingbird, but i‘m just confused (once again.)Thanks in advance! :D

Answer:

I don't really know if the part about the fire had an exact meaning. I think it was just a plot twist. The neighbors went into the house and pushed all the furniture out to save it, so Miss Maudie would have her furniture when her house was rebuilt. As for the title, it isn't quite clear, but Atticus says, You can shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit 'em. But it's a sin to kill a mockingbird. It has to do with Tom Robinson, and how he was innocent and good like a mockingbird, and Atticus saying that people shouldn't be against him just because of his race.
Well the fire was that important to the plot, but it had a couple good points, 1. during the fire Boo Radley puts a blanket around scout, but scout was so shocked from the fire she didn't notice until later. this is semi-important later in the book 2. this isn't essential to the book but miss maudie was a good example of staying positive even after tragedy. the neighbors were pushing furniture out of the house because they were trying to save it from being burnt in the fire. so you know that its a sin to kill a mockingbird because they are innocent and don't do any harm to the world, they just provide beautiful music. Without me giving to much away, later in the book an innocent man is killed, that is why the title is 'to kill a mockingbird' hope i helped! :D
It's a sin to kill a mockingbird. Tom Robinson the mockingbird. It's hard to explain, hopefully someone else will do a better job than me! Lol.
