Question:

Top loader washing machine vs Front loader washing machine?

Im not sure how to go about choosing the right set (washer and dryer). I'm not sure it is worth the money for a front loader. I seem to find equal amount of complaints from both. Let me know your opinion

Answer:

Love, love, love my front loaders. I'm not sure if they've started making more efficient top loaders, but the one thing I know for sure is that my washer spins the clothes to the point that the clothes are just slightly damp. I only run the dryer half of what I used to with my old set. I've only had the washer get out of balance once ever, but that's because I was washing a duvet that got all balled up in itself. With a top loader, out of balance seemed to be a far too regular occurrence. The downside: not all makers of laundry detergent make an he version. I am usually stuck with not being able to buy the detergent that's on sale because of this. People say you can use the regular detergent, but I don't. Tip: go stand in front of Sears at midnight on Thanksgiving and wait there until morning. The last two years they've sold sets of front loaders for $600 (yes, $600...as in $300 a piece)! Best purchase I ever made.
years ago there were mainly front loading wash machines and there was always trouble with them over flowing and soap all over the place, when the top loaders came out I got one and have one ever since. At least with a top loader you will most likely never have over flowing. My brother bought one of those newer front loaders and he too is sorry that he did, and the rubber ring of those front loaders tend to keep moisture under them and cause mold, you have to make sure you clean them properly to prevent the mold build up.
I would throw my front loaders out the top of the empire state building without remorse. They totally suck! Kenmore 'Elites.' Go with the top loader!

I have a top loader Whirlpool Gold and it's OK tho the agitator often wrinkles clothes and you are limited in the load capacity by the agitator. What I've seen lately is that the manufacturers have come out with a top loading, energy efficient washer without the agitator. It's more expensive than the regular top loader, but less than most front loaders and you don't need a pedestal as it's high enough already, so you save quite a bit on that as well. If I was getting a new washer today, I'd go with the top loading, non-agitator energy efficient design.
