Motor oil got put in the transmission of a friends mustang. He went and got an estimate and its about 250 dollars. By the time they fix gaskets, filter, oil etc. Is this possible to do on your own? What does this process include? Any information would be helpful.
Hang it outside for a couple of days and spray with Febreeze a couple of times. The wind will do the trick! I do this if I've been out in a smoky place the night before- it works.
hang a large bag over the coat and spray inside with febreze. Close up and wait overnight. Smell should be gone.
I would try hanging it in fresh air and keep spraying with a product like febreeze. If your really sensitive to the smell you may never get it out.
Speaking from personal experience and the advice of several mechanic friends. Brake fluid has a tendency to absorb moisture. When that happens the fluid turns from a light honey color to a black color. The moisture in the fluid will corrode the brake parts costing you repairs in the future as these components will seize and fail. I have had several cars with 400,000+ kilometres and never replaced the master cylinder or brake calipers. Just regular maintenance on brake pads and rotors (discs). As for your transmission fluid. (assuming you drive an automatic) It depends what kind of driving you do. City and driving with a trailer shortens its life. If the fluid is dark red verses light red it is a sure sign of being burnt. It should be changed every 50,000km or 30,000 miles. Again, I have never done a transmission in any of my cars. Hope this helps
after a few transmission rebuilds i highly recommend you NOT try this on your own. solenoids and valve body will have to be cleaned and usually not an easy task to flush a transmission on your own. even dropping the pan will not get it all out of the system takes either a flush unit or trans removal to get the job done correctly
