Question:

Transmission oil smell inside car, after it was changed?

OK, so i bought a used car (Automatic transmission) and my mechanic said the transmission oil needs to be changed (it was a blackish greenish colour, and it needs to be red in colour)He changed the transmission oil (it was the right type of oil and a high grade) and now when I drive I smell a sweet-musty odour that I know is the transmission oil. I drive with the air conditioning on, and it comes through the vents. It is most noticeable when i am stopped, or after the car has been sitting in the parking garage for the night (most noticeable).They checked - THERE ARE NO LEAKS, NO SPILLS, AND THEY CLEANED THE OUTSIDE OF THE ENGINE!!I‘m starting to wonder whether there was some transmission problem with the car, that revealed itself, after the fluid was changed???What do I do??

Answer:

Transmission Cooler in the bottom tank of your Radiator. Sounds like the Coils in the Tank are Cracked! Check for Reddish Foaming in the Radiator, Only fix is Replace the Radiator. Change Transmission Fluid Filter Again and if it Old and High Mileage a Flush might be in Order. {Greenish-Red in the Transmission before was Coolant mixed in the Fluid}
The guy probably had oil on his clothes and shoes, which transferred to the inside of your car seats and floor mats.NOTE: to Paul, there is another way to fix a bad trans oil cooler. Plug it off and install an aftermarket oil cooler.
