Transmission question!?

One mechanic says, We can change the transmission filter and add fluid, but we don‘t flush the system. ($90.00) The other mechanic says, We will flush the system, add fluid but not change the filter. (125.00) My transmission fluid is brownish and none of this work has ever been done on my car before. It is a 1998 Ford Escort. What is the best thing to do?

Answer:

If it ain't the fuse, then it might be one of those electrical relay boxes which are on the fusebox. The size of a sugar cube. I don't know 1995, I know some pre 95's had such a wiring set up. Otherwise the next common thing that relates to all is the steering wheel control switch. The worst thing is if you burnt out the WWmotor. There is the $$
forget it, leave it alone
I agree with Dave. If regular maintenance has not been done on them, a flush or fluid change at high mileage can cause problems. However, if the transmission is acting up a filter/fluid change may help. Usually doesn't, but it may.
