its a 2004 dodge caravan 4 cyl. when i am stopped at a red light, after about 45 seconds to a minute it lurches forward. other times when stopping at a stop sign after taking my foot off the brake it will start to shake momentarily. the other day when backing up it died on me. any clue why this would happen and a rough price on how to fix it? its only got about 85000 miles on it and it has good color transmission fluid.
Since you have the 4 cylinder engine, your transmission is the older 3 speed automatic which is generally more reliable and cheaper to service when something goes wrong. I think the transmission bands in your transmission are loose and need adjustment. It can be done on your own but it can get a bit tricky and messy. Any transmission shop can do the adjustment, but it will probably cost you over 100 bucks to have it done.
it sounds like an issue related to the forward clutch really. it is used in low gear primarily.
