Question:

Transmission replaced? Price?

okay so I have a 1991 Ford explorer (4WD) I am having to have my transmission replaced. I am being charge like 1300 for the job (750 for the used transmission and 550 for the labor) also the used transmission has like a 30 day warranty on it. I would just like to know if this is a standard price and if the 30 day warranty on the transmission is normal (it seems a little short to me, but Idk anything about cars or parts).Your help is greatly appreciated! ]

Answer:

You are paying much less than the $3,500 it would cost to install a rebuilt transmission. Consider yourself lucky. Normally repairmen would not put any kind of a guarantee on used parts. You should consider checking on used vehicle values. It may be getting to the point where it is not cost effective to repair your vehicle.
Depending on wherein you are living and whos doing it I might say a transmission store to rebuild it's gonna be any wherein from $1200 to $2000. If you get a used one from a salvage backyard might be round $three hundred and anothe $three hundred to have a fair priced individual to position it in. Your option. I are living in Pa
The prices seem reasonable. The warranty is short, but it's a used transmission, not a rebuilt transmission. While it's better than nothing, 30 days is not much peace of mind. I wonder what they would have charged for a rebuilt trans with a 1 year warranty, or longer? Unfortunately, your question comes too late to make any difference, as does this answer. It's a bit like gambling, and you may come out fine. You could be driving that thing trouble free 5 years from now. Of course, you must change the trans fluid every 25,000 miles as well as the filter. Also, keep an eye on the transmission fluid level. Have the shop show you exactly how to check the level so yu know how to do it.
