Question:

Transmission tune-up Help?!?

I have a 2005 Nssan Maxima. Im the 2nd owner, got the car Feb 2010. Apparently at 30 and 60,000 miles, a transmission tune-up is needed. At 30,000 I didnt own the car, so I didnt know it never got that. At 60,000 which was 6,000 miles ago, I went to get it tuned-up because it was starting to jerk. The tune-up helped but not much, at that point. I dont know much about cars but I know how the transmission works. It jerks entering 3rd gear, and 4th gear. Does it need to be rebuilt? If so, am I looking at a lot of money? BTW its an automatic car.should have stuck with manual!

Answer:

keep an eye on fluid levels too much is worse than low. how bad is it jerking? I payed to have a shift kit put in that made it jerk into the next gear. Sure its not working like new? and not used to it? Don't think rebuild necessary
ive consistently been informed that changing your transmission fluid in an vehicle trans maay no longer be a song up if its a maual trans do it. its all stable a real vehicle trans song up is rather a rebuild kit. in case you alter the trans fluid you besides mght do away with products of grit that have been used for grasp plates. your doing away with friction textile that even have been given inbetween the plates even however apparently like your doing a stable concern by employing taking all that crap out you're nonetheless doing away with a friction textile. a trans flush in the direction of the tip of the life of your automobile might greater advantageous than possibly make your transmission start to slip. and be the loss of life of your transmission the guideline of thumb with vehicle transmissions is dont fix it till its broke
Melodizzle, I don't think it is time to panic just yet. After reviewing a couple of things here, I feel comfortable that your transmission is not damaged. I looked up the service information for the 2005 Maxima and found that the transmission uses a synthetic transmission fluid. As such, I couldn't find anywhere that an automatic transmission service or tune up is required by Nissan at 30,000 miles or 60,000 miles. In fact, I couldn't find where a fluid change would be needed unless repairs are performed on the transmission. I am not sure who told you a transmission tune up is needed every 30,000 miles. The CVT transmission used by Nissan is a very sturdy and reliable transmission and should provide you with years of trouble free service. Unlike older transmissions, most of the controls are handled by electric solenoids and sensors. It is very likely you have a sensor or solenoid starting to act a little goofy. I strongly encourage you to take the car to a Nissan dealer and tell them everything you have shared on here. Let them perform their own evaluation of the transmission. They have the correct tools to diagnose it properly. If you take it to a transmission shop, I can bet you what their diagnosis would be. You have a very nice car. I think you will be happy with it.
