Question:

Trouble locating bearing for wheel of 2002 Hyundai Sonata. Do Hyundai bearings come with numbers on them?

Car has been in the shop since last week. They've ordered the bearing according to catalog, and its wrong - so they say the spindle has been changed apparently..however my brother in law says the bearings come with numbers imprinted on them which should make it easy to replace. The garage lady says Hyundai bearings don't come with numbers...anyway, they are down to the last bearing Hyundai makes and we are waiting for that part to come and hoping it is correct....I am wondering if this is just totally nuts or does this sound correct? Shouldn't they have just taken the bearing itself to an auto parts place and matched it up? Why is this so hard? Car was originally put in the shop for a new alternator, by the way.

Answer:

Get the bearing and look for yourself. Go to auto parts store and ask them for a front wheel bearing for your vehicle. Look it up online at Auto Zone. com. There are a number of ways to find out. Get out of there and find a shop that knows what they are doing. Why are they working on the wheels to repair an alternator. Sounds like you are getting ripped.

What type of shop did you take it to. Your personal mechanic or a Hyundai dealer. Is the car under 100,000 miles, it should be under warranty 10years 100,000 powertrain warranty and those type of bearings are powertrain. If you cant get them warrantied because of not being original owner or something stupid then just get a spindle from a junkyard have the shop your taking it to put the correct bearing in the spindle from a junkyard and that should solve your problems if there any ?'s email me
Wheel bearings out on a 2002... how many miles are on the car? While it is not impossible for the wheel bearings to be bad, I have 180,000 miles on one of my cars and never replaced a wheel bearing. (car was bought new) Are they replacing the wheel bearing, or a joint for the front wheel drive? Or are you getting ripped off? Something doesn't sound right by what you are saying.
