Question:

ubuntu windows boot loader question?

I just installed ubuntu 11.10 dual boot with my windows 7. But i get the windows boot loader unlike others. I want the classic ubuntu grub boot loader. can someone help me or tell me how i can get the grub boot loader on my ubuntu 11.10 64 bit / windows 7 home premium 64 bit os.

Answer:

I wouldn't get so hung up on grub. If your ubuntu works to your satisfaction then leave it as it is. At least you can easily uninstall it, and you haven't overwritten your windows partition.
That's interesting, usually when you install Ubuntu after Windows, it loads the Ubuntu loader as it is the software creating the extra partition and boot mapping. However if you install Ubuntu first, then install Windows 7, generally it is Windows that takes over the boot loading screen since it is the one creating the extra partition and boot mapping. In which order did you install them?
You answered your own question. You used WUBI to install Ubuntu which is why the Windows Boot Loader is still the one being used. When you use WUBI, Ubuntu is installed INSIDE Windows. Nothing needs to be changed in the Boot Loader. You should have installed Ubuntu alongside Windows but at a separate partition. What you should do is uninstall Ubuntu from the Windows Control Panel and then reinstall Ubuntu by booting from the disc, not by running it inside Windows. Make sure you don't install over the Windows partition. Label your partitions properly.
simply red is correct.
