I agree with the first answer.
Primary purpose is to provide access to elevated structures so that work can be done. Unfortunately, the other useful purpose for a scaffold isn't used any more in Australia.
scaffolding is also used as a safety barrier for demolition sites, as a catch or safety precaution for workmen and work platforms on building sites, power stations, refineries, mines, etc
