Question:

uTILITARIAN ceramics?

what is it?and what does burnishing mean?

Answer:

Utilitarian would be stuff for everyday use, like ordinary dishware.
As in the previous answer utilitarian is everyday, functional pottery. Burnishing is smoothing the exterior of a piece of pottery before it has been fired. It is usually done while the piece is in the leatherhard state. When a piece has been burnished, it will not accept glaze.
Utilitarian means something that is useful. Like a plate, bowl, etc. Burnishing refers to the process of rubbing a ceramic piece with an object such as a smooth stone or a spoon. This process makes the object super smooth and shiny.
