not sure what kind of wool or yarn your sweater is made of but maybe you could try to spray your sweater after you wash it with a light type of hairspray (one that says flexible hold -so it doesn't make your sweater crunchy!!) Hope this helps
If it's not your house there ain't much you can do except buy some peel off stick on insulation you can cut with sizzors and check windows and doors.Also see how cold you can get the unit at night, if it stays the same, unit ain't rightAS the air leaves the unit which is usually in the attic,there is duct work that goes to the rooms and you may be loosing air in the attic, duct tap works wellWhat really needs to be done since it's an old house, is to have the attic blown with more insulationAlso heavy draps on the windows will help and sun screen on windiws.
