The pressure guage is reading 3 bar and water is continuously running from the roof overflow pipe. What should I do to reduce the pressure immediately and what is the problem likely to be .Unit is 1 year old
water will only continuously run from the pressure relief valve if the filling loop is open. this usually discharges against a wall behind the boiler. is the overflow pipe definatly from the boiler? its not the toilet or water tank overflow. if def from the boiler make sure the lfilling loop is closed or if it is faulty replace, they are only ?15
Bleed a rad into a bucket or dish that will drop the pressure. Check the filling loop under the boiler is fully turned off. after that could be expanshon vessel losse charge The pressure release vve might need changing as once they have opened they do not alwas close, when the pressue has droped if the water still drips from the out side pipe change it.
If the boiler has been loosing pressure regularly and you have been topping it up with the filling loop you might have left it open slightly. If this is the case then you either have a leak or as already stated the expansion vessel has no air charge in it and it needs pumped up. If you have not been topping up the pressure then the filling loop might be faulty or the plate heat exchanger has a split in the weld and is allowing mains water in to the boiler/heating system. If the boiler is only one year old then i would phone the installer to come back and check it over. The boiler will have a guarantee which may or may not still be valid but is still worth checking out.
