Question:

Washing a bathroom floor rug?

I have a rug in my bathroom, the fluffy kind with the rubber bottom that you step out on after you get out of the shower. It's kind of funky and needs to be washed, but I don't know how I'm supposed to wash it. Can I just throw it into the washing machine like a towel as long as I run it on the cold cycle? And if so, can I dry it in the dryer or does it need to hang dry? Thanks for your help!

Answer:

When is the last time this mat was washed? You must have a filthy home.
I have always washed and dried mine in the washer/dryer - low heat. But...I did my parents rug and it exploded in the washer and what a mess.
It depends on the quality of the rug. I've had several, they can all be washed in the machine, but some have been ruined in the dryer (shredded rubber backing). The best thing to do is wash it and let it air dry. Hang it over something and it will dry pretty quickly.
I have the same style of rugs and I throw them in the washer and hang dry them. Sometimes I have to wash them on hot (which isn't good for them) but we have a new puppy (and a couple of times she's used them for potty time) and it's either they take a few hot washings or I have to throw them away. They have held up pretty good so far; we've had them for about a year.
I have always washed and dried my bathroom rugs in the washer and dryer. I have done this for years without any problems. Just don't leave the rug in the dryer for too long. Just enough to get nice and fluffy. Good luck. Carolyn
