Question:

water stain on laminate flooring?

Despite having a trash bag underneath the Xmas tree stand to protect the floor, when we removed the tree, we found dark water stains on the laminate floor. The marks could have been there for three weeks. What is the best way to remove them?

Answer:

It depends. Most laminates have about 1/8 to 1/4 inches of real wood surface. They are sandable 2 to 3 times before going through that surface. With a very fine grit sandpaper, sand the entire plank of laminate flooring (not just the spot). Use a couple of layers of masking tape to mask off the adjacent planks so you don't sand them. This way, when you re-stain the floor, if the color is not exactly a match, it will look like an intentional variation in the flooring instead of a fix. Test a section in an inconspicuous place, or on an extra piece from when you installed the floor. If possible, go to wherever you bought the laminate and buy 1 section to test the stain for color match. Happy sanding!
not really sure. i have a small section of laminate flooring in my basement. we had a basement leak and the water ruined the floor. mind u, had water under my laminate, not on top. careful with water, it can destroy.
