Well, you are 18. They don't really have much of a say-so with how you spend your money. I understand they are worried, all parents worry. It's natural. But, they can't hold you down. You are considered an adult and you can make the decision without their permission.
I have every reason in the world to not trust my husband as prior to our marriage, he cheated several times (yeah I'm an idiot,) I too periodically check his phone, and while you are invading his privacy by sneaking, he can thank himself, why would he make an agreement to keep both phones unlocked only to put it back on if he wasn't hiding something, and if he has questionable people on his phone list, maybe he should be smart enough to delete them therefore having no reason to lock a phone, men can be stupid.but there would be other signs..like is the phone practically up his ss? Look around, if locking it is the only weird thing he's doing.I'd be more worried about it being off or silent (to prevent a call from coming in, something my husband used to do.)
If your 18 and you have your own money then I do not see the problem. At 18 you are old enough to buy your own as long as you can get financed unless you buy one for cash. You are going to do it regardless by the sounds of it so just ride safe. Do not ride aggressively and prove them wrong if you think you are ready. I am 42 and I have been riding since I was about 9 or 10. I'm also a guy but I know a lot of women who ride and they are safe as can be. also maybe ride with another person as much as possible till you get the hang of it. Hope this helps, ride safe.
