Question:

Well, I would like to learn how to use the public transportation system in NY?

I currently live in Bergen Country, NJI know how to take a bus from there and cross the George Washington Bridge and end up in the bus station right after the bridge and I can go down some stairs and end up in the subwayFrom there I am completely clueless on what to do, how to pay for the trains etcI would like to visit places like Central Park, Times Square, Little Italy, The Lower East Side, China Town, but I have no idea how to do so without getting lost or completely confusedCan someone please help me.

Answer:

People are assuming that you'll end up at the large 42nd Street Port Authority building, but you won'tYou'll end up at the tiny bus station way uptown near the G.WBridge Go downstairs and take the A train DOWNTOWNTo get on the train you will first have to buy a metrocard in the machineYou can use cash, credit card or debit cardFollow the instructions on the screenThe machine will tell you exactly what to doThen swipe your metrocard at the turnstile and walk in(Make sue you are on the correct platform first! The one you want should say DOWNTOWN on the sign.) Every station has a clear, easy to read subway mapCheck the map to see where you have to changeYou will be on the A line, way up in the northern most part of ManhattanSo look for where you have to change to get to those different places(You were too vague and listed too many places for me to give specific directions.)
