Question:

What About These Wedding Chair Covers?

I was thinking of how I might make affordable wedding chair covers for my wedding, but I have found that polyester is very expensive by the yard. I was thinking of making them with cotton and then making the same cover in tulle to fit over the cotton. That would make it to layers of material over the chair. Does that sound totally ridiculous?

Answer:

I guess it depends on how ugly those chairs really are!! If this is what you want, and you have the time to make them, then, why not? However, I would not make the two layers independantly. Rather, I would cut them out and sew them, two layers at a time. You could even stack a layer of solid, a layer of tulle, a layer of solid, a layer of tulle and then cut them all out at the same time to save time and energy. And, like I said, sew them two layers at a time to even save more time. Make a pattern and one chair cover to try it on a chair first to be sure it fits. Also, it might be wise to ask the venue if they intend to change the chairs before you wedding day. I would hate to see you sew a hundred of these covers and then not be able to use them!! I am not a negative person, but I think you should cover all bases to be sure there are no surprises.
I think you're underestimating the intensity and stress of a project like this. If you really want chair covers, I'd say buy/rent them and keep your sanity.
got excellent reviews. I'm so glad I bought from them, and I'm just going to sell them on Craigslist or whatever when I'm done with them. CHEAPER THAN RENTING and sooo easy! They come in white, ivory, and black, and you can get them in satin if you don't want polyester (I have the polyester ones and they actually look classy and well-made, not cheap).
That's quite the undertaking. Very ambitions. Especially since you are going to be making 2/chair for your plans. I would ask yourself some questions. What could you rent them for versus make them? I know here in the St. Louis area you can get them for $3-$4/chair. It may only cost you a dollar to make one, but your personal time may be more valuable, and your sanity. Also, note that when you rent chair covers generally the company comes and does a professional install and makes sure they are all pressed. You might be able to negotiate if you agree to pick them up and install yourself. Also, how many guests will you have? At my establishment we only order one extra cover. Will you need to make many more? What happens if you run short? If you rent and they short you they will have to get it to you. In the end all you will need to choose for yourself and I wish you luck and congrats on the wedding,
They are very good chairs, for a fundraiser dinner. For a wedding, go with the covers * they will look heaps better *you always wanted that look *it is your wedding Maybe you could trim some or all of that $300 off something else, as a give and take with your fiance? a few flowers less? a $1 less expensive favours for the guests?
