Question:

What are dos & donts for displaying ceramic statues in the yard?

I have been given a few ceramic ducks for my yard. I don‘t want to ruin them, or, to jeopardize any critters by their placement. My questions are:1. Will full, summer, desert, sun destroy the finish on the ceramic?2. Is it safe to set one in a bird-bath . is it safe both for its finish, and the safety of bees, birds, neighbor cats that drink from it?

Answer:

Well, here in Delaware (US), we don't seem to have that problem. We've barely dipped below 32 F yet! Ship us some of your snow, why don't you!!
I can't wait for winter to actually start! It's 50 degrees in Chicago when it's supposed to be 25.
If the finish was set in a kiln then it should stand the heat. Since all ceramic is kiln dried I see no problem. Yes it is safe to set in bird-bath, water shouldn't bother it either, many bird baths are ceramic. It won't poison anything. If it freezes though then you must bring in or they will crack.
Ceramics have been fired in a kiln and they can break, but should be fine in the desert sun! Yes, the animals CAN drink from them, think of them as any other dishes (all dishes are clay and baked in a kiln!
we are having warm weather in s.c. we want some snow.
