Battery is junkbatteries have only so long a shelf life and then they are dead. Is your pilot light burning. You should see a small blue flame when you take off the furnace panel which is a lift up and unhook type fitting.. If no flame, turn down the thermostat to cooler or off. Now go down with matches. You will see a metal box with a red button and writing on the box. Turn the ring to pilot. The red button has a spring under it , so you push down on it and hold it down while you have a lit match and you hold it near the little pipe and penis. You hold that button down for a full 2 minutes(this one is fussy) 2 minutes is mandatory.This allows the penis to get red hot and continue the flame when you do let go of the button. Now turn the ring to on. Close up the furnace by putting on the metal door. You are done here.Go back to the thermostat and turn on the heat. You should hear the furnace go whoosh as the big flame comes on.That is I am assuming you have fuel in your fuel tanks if you are on propane or oil. Natural gas is always in the lines which is black pipe with a valve on it. If the valve handle is in line like l then it is on. If it is like L then it is shut off.. Just move the handle to the in line position and fuel flows to the burner. I guess I should have clarified that first. I shut mine off every year so even the pilot dies as I don't need heat in the summer months. Hot water was also on gas and that had a separate shut off valve. It was always on.
