Question:

What are some smart steps when buying a used car from a private party?

im planning to by a 97 mazda and am 17 w/ a permit for $2200. I need some precationary tips and explanations so i dont get played like a fool here, so can you guys help me out? Like when you buy a used car, what are the main things you look for in the car? and, what are some steps you take? like would a carfax report be enough or does it have to be a mechanic? thanx

Answer:

take the vehicle to a mechanic and have it checked out. They will check the oil to see if its burnt or if its leaking and also with the transmission.
Test drive, and or have amechanic inspect the car yo uwish to buy in order to detect any issues with it. Obtain a Bill of Sale from the seller. It is your recepit. Obtain the Title from the seller. Got to the DMV and pay registration and taxes. The DMV will take the old title from you and issue you a new one in your name. Wallah!
Have you tried oiling the mechanism? It does indeed sound like a bad motor, but before you spend a fortune on a new one, try oiling it first.
