Depends on the alarms, some hard wired alarms are interconnected so that if one goes off, they all go off. You can test this by setting one off with a candle. However, it's possible that the hard wiring is just for power so that the battery is just a backup power source.If they are not interlinked, then the easiest thing to do would be to replace them with hard wired smoke alarms with wireless interconnects. You can probably find some battery alarms with wireless interconnects as well. Most houses built after 1993 are wired for interconnected smoke alarms so you may not have to go with a wireless model. Should be a relatively easy DIY project to change them out.

The battery back up system needs to be changed every 6 months. If the chirping continues, you need to replace one or more of the detectors. The design life is 5 years, some do last longer but not always.
