I have two lounge chairs i just bought and they are starting to rust. What can I put on them to make it stop?
How about a thick piece of glass for the table top (e.g. 1/4) -- something rated for outdoor use? We have a wrought iron table with a glass top; it's round and and we leave it outside and uncovered from spring until late fall. Wipe with a paper towel and window cleaner before use and it's good to go. That same piece of glass has been around for some 40 years -- it's got some fine scratches but that's the only sign of wear. As for the paint we got good results with Benjamin Moore enamel for metal surfaces. The previous responder is right about the preparation and priming, etc.
The best solution is to have them powder coated. It's a little expensive but they will last ten times as long as a paint job.Look in the yellow pages for someone who can do the job.
On metal chairs use Black Star Rust Converter. It will turn the rust back to metal. The surface will be a black primed surface. You can leave it black or paint over it. The chairs will be rust proof for the life of the chairs. No More Rust!
