I am having such a hard time finding a rug for my small studio apartment! I have white walls, an off-white/very light creme colored modern leather couch, a glass coffee table (smart coffee table-cb2) and a dark wood tv console. I just purchased a small dining table which is basically next to my tv console and it is also dark wood. I wanted to keep the entire room light but after an impulsive buy, I realize that the dining table definitely darked the room by a lot. Would using a white area rug clash with the off-white couch? I was also thinking of a light taupe colored rug that I think might match better but I want a color as light as possible. Would white be bad, aside from difficulties in maintenance?Last question, in a small room, would a dark wood tv console, dark wood dining table and a dark wood entryway console table be too much dark wood? Thanks a lot!
1st choice: Beach Sand colored. 2nd choice: Turqoise. 3rd choice: Bright Purple. 4th choice: A Red Wine color. 5th choice: Silver, not grey! Perfect match, all dark wood!
I would bring in some color, any color, light greens or blues and throw pillows of the same color and throws and add some brown into the mix to help the dark wood not stand out so much.
You need some rugs in colors that tie the areas together but bring interest into the room. Plain whites or creams will only bland out the room areas. Choose a colorful pattern under the dining area and another in similar but different patterns for the living area. Wood colors are considered neutrals so they are not an issue. Your choices of too many whites and lights are. Colorful patterned rugs will add focus and interest to your areas and make your furniture choices stand out.. Think color, not bland.
I would use a tan or a sand color rug. If you use white, I do think it would clash even though your walls are white. Actually, it would drown the room with that much white and cause your dark table to stand out even more. A tan or sand color rug would help to 'marry' the couch, walls and wood together because it's a combination of all the other colors in your room. You could also possibly by some darker brown throw pillows which would then marry your couch with your dark wood and still go with the sandy color rug. Don't buy just plain brown pillows though as they wouldn't really add much excitement to the room. Get something with brown stripes or another design you like. You'll be surprised at how everything will go to gether while still keeping that 'light' feeling you want in your room. I love to decorate and after thinking about your question, the sandy rug or light tan rug just sounds like it would work the best. Good luck on your decorating adventure. I hope I helped in some way.
