what colour band does a foam fire extinguisher have in the UK?

Answer:

If it is your intention to join 1/2 pipe to 15mm copper pipe then use a compression type fitting NOT a solder type fitting, as most people have indiocated, there can be slight differences OR with older type 1/2 copper pipe Quite large differences, so always use compression ( the ones that require an olive, and have to be tightened with a wrench ) Wrap plumbers tape around the olive, and don't overtighten.
I am not sure what you have but it is probably a compression fitting. It should have a brass sleeve, that is called a ferrule, that slides around the tubing. Put the nut on the tubing, then the ferrule, and attach it to the valve, making sure the tubing is seated all the way into the valve. Good luck
Have there been accidents? Is this perhaps a 4 lane road with an unreasonably low (school zone) speed limit? Many limits around schools are 25mph only when children are present, and rightly so. Assuming that this really is a 2 lane, 25mph road, and people really are driving over 50mph on a regular basis, it's a major problem, and almost inevitable that there have been accidents and many near misses as a result. You tell me, I don't know the details. Generally though, my opinion is that police already spend far, far, far too great a percentage of available resources harassing and shaking down people who are trying to drive, and out of that, 95% is spent on speeding and DUI enforcement. Practically no enforcement on red light runners, left lane bandits, oblivious cell phone nitwits, etc (bad drivers). People get too caught up in the myth that speeding causes everything bad. It doesn't. Drivers not paying attention cause most accidents. Also, the fact that they dismiss a speed hump (normal roads never have speed bumps, they are for parking lots) because it will slow down fire/rescue seems to imply that it is a regular thoroughfare and the 25mph limit is probably unreasonable.
And see what type of fitting you are dealing with. It is probably a compression type. Flare fittings are sort of dropping by the wayside, which is too bad.
