What damage would be done if an empty pallet dropped on top of foot?
My son (now 14) has a cleft of the soft pallet (at the uvula and behind it) and it was never repaired. Our specialist told us to come back when he had sucking issues (never did), ear infections (never did), and speech issues (again never did), but until then not to bother. My son has always had to be careful about talking and eating at the same time and also when he throws up - since it will come out his nose. Other than that his only issue is that he gets lots of ear drainage, so needs to clean his ears out often. He was breastfed until almost 2 and ate regular food when he was ready (around 9 months when got teeth). I would just focus more on milk and the foods she can pick up and eat herself. I wouldn't squeeze it in as it will most likely gag her like it seemed to do for my son. You can take the suction part out of the sippy cups so it is more like a pour spout and she can start controlling the flow of liquid. Unless she is really having problems with her cleft pallet, you might want to get a second opinion about surgery. I know some doctors do it routinely with any clefts, but not sure it is all really necessary. Good luck and if you have any questions, please email me.
All the problems you are having are common ones. Don't get to concerned over any of this. I will recommened a SOFT spout sippy cup instead of a hard spout (like the NUBY brand). Did your peditrican tell you to introduce soilds and the cup before the surgery? I have always heard to NOT give soilds or cup because of how hard it is on the babies to eat and can cause them to refuse them post operation. If it is causing a lot of fustration to the both of you, sippy cups and soilds can hold off. Your daughter receives all of her nutrition from bottles right now anyway. Good luck!
