Alarm tech here. First off it's not going off it's just giving a warning that the battery has become low. It is probably wired on a dedicated line voltage circuit from your breaker panel, however the 9 volt battery in it is designed as a backup power source. If you open the beeping unit there is probably a battery inside, just pop it out and put a new battery in, it is a good idea to replace all of them in your house/condo/apt., as they were probably all installed at the same time, and it's likely the others could become low very shortly.
