Question:

what do I look for when buying carpet?

We are replacing the carpet in our living roomI would like help in knowing what questions to ask to get good carpet but not more than we needI also want to be able to compare prices at several businessesWhat are the major factors to look for in carpet?

Answer:

Compare apples to apples Look at what is offered in stain protection, mat and crush warranties( how long) and yarn construction The density used to be a excellent way to judge how good a carpet is, but isn t as true any more with the fiber construction now You can get a loose floppy pile and it can be better than a heavy thick pile at times Thats why you need to watch warranties Your over all, day to day carpet best is a nylon( 100%)But there are some good synthetic fibers out there that will resist even bleach Take a note pad and take notes of prices, warranties and construction so your not 2nd guessing your self when going to a few places Take samples home to look in your lightingNight, day, cloudy etc see it from several angles One other thing is padding, For a regular carpet, nothing less than a 5 1/2- 7/16thes(nothing thicker either this will void warranties) rebond pad. This is a manufactures minimumYou can go denser but not less GL
Yes, you can use the crochet thread but it will not be as soft as fingering yarn Did you look at the baby yarns? all these are fingering weight! And because it is a scarf, you can use sports weight too if you wishScarves do not need to fit exactlyI like Caron and Red Heart yarns, have found a new one that I like just as well as those 2 but haven't looked for their fingering or sports weight yarns yet! Name is I Love This Yarn and is found at Hobby Lobby.
Crochet threat is a bit lightweight, and will give your scarf an odd textureI'd keep looking for yarn - either a more reasonably priced brand or wait for a sale.
