Vacuum Energy is the elastic energy stored in the stretched rubber sheet of Space-Time. This is why we get Hawking Radiation from a Black Hole. The Black Hole streaches Space-Time putting more elastic energy into the rubber sheet Lots of particle-anti-particle pairs
