What does quartz on a watch mean?
This question appears in Answers physics category. One fundamental law of physics is Law of conservation of mass. Under normal circumstances (except nuclear reactions and radioactivity) mass is conserved in any chemical reaction or any physical change, no matter what you do with the mass. If 60 kg granite contains 35% quartz it will remain as it is unless it goes through some chemical reaction. That’s (60 x 35)/100 = 21 kg. The distribution of quartz particle in granite and percent of wastage during cutting process is another issue. If such data is available then it can be included for adjusting or correcting the answer.
