Question:

what eletronic items are allwed on an airplane?

i pods,cameras,nentendos, ect

Answer:

right here's a itemizing of prohibited and authorized products from the Transportation protection administration. Airline policies could be extra strict than TSA policies, yet for many visitors - those no longer carrying radioactive isotopes or something like that - the TSA regulations are the proper regulations.
I can say from personal experience that the above answers are wrong in places, 2 different airlines had no problem with wireless gaming between Nintendo DS, we made sure we checked first. Plane didn't fall out the sky either.
You can bring laptops, iPods and any other battery powered electrical equipment (providing it passes through security) onto the plane, but while the seatbelt sign is on you're not allowed to use it. Your mobile phone shouldn't be switched on at all, and nor should any wireless communication stuff (e.g. wifi on a DS) in case it interferes with the planes equipment. EDIT: They're not too keen on you using cameras to take pictures on the runway or on the plane in case they think your detonating something or using the pics for commercial whatnot.
All those are allowed on the plane. You cannot use anything that has wireless turned on - so cell phone games can be played if the wireless part of the cell phone can be turned off. Computer is OK if you can turn off wireless internet (won't work up there anyway). Please bring headphones so that you don't annoy neighbors.

Plane didn't fall out the sky either. Just because you were given permission and nothing happened doesn't mean that the answers given thusfar are wrong. In the US, the FAA must approve the usage of portable electronic devices above aircraft -- they have not approved the usage of most devices that send or transmit signals (with the exception of certain devices that can connect to the Internet on those planes that have wireless Internet access). Further, I'd almost guarantee that, had you told them you were actually going to be using your DS for wireless gaming that would send signals between the two, they'd have said no. (The likelier scenario is that you just asked if it was okay to use them, not mentioning the part about the wireless gaming between the two devices.) Anyone who has said that electronics may be carried onboard, but certain ones cannot be used at all during the flight, is correct. Additionally, most airlines prohibit the usage of any electronic devices during taxi, takeoff, and landing, even if they allow them to be used during the rest of the flight.
