If the amount of lime contained in a plastic bottle is relatively large, the heat produced by the chemical reaction will cause a rapid expansion of the plastic bottle, which will seriously cause the plastic bottle to burst. If the amount is small or the bottle cap is not airtight, the lime may deform the plastic bottle. However, no drying agent will explode in water. At least two conditions are required to put the desiccant in confined space and full water expansion.
Lime desiccant is the main component of calcium oxide. Calcium oxide produces a sharp chemical reaction when it meets water and releases a lot of heat at once.
In sufficient circumstances, the desiccant may explode in water; if the conditions are inadequate, there may be the risk of explosion.
