Question:

what happens when a transmission solenoid mulfunctions?

after a few minutes of my transmission running my car wont go in reverse whats wrong?

Answer:

If it's the torque converter lock up solenoid, it starts killing the motor at stoplights. That's the only one I've ever seen that malfunctioned, and it was a pretty common problem on the mid-80's GM products.
May need to buy a new solenoid.
transmissions specially newer electronic transmissions have multiple solonoids , and if it is OBD II - 1996 and up it should illuminate the service engine soon light
