Question:

what insulation should I use?

I am turning my basement into a man cave and I would like some advice on a good insulation to use in the ceiling? I would like something that reduces noise as well since I dont want the noise from the basement to travel upstairs to the bedroomsAny suggestions?

Answer:

you could use tinfoil, but that really wouldn;t keep its shape, unless you wrapped it around something that would such as cardboard.good luck
i like the idea of the person above memuch less work than what we were originally thinkingi still like the mirror pieces tho, and we havent been saving up the cd's!! guess we better start!
buy a round ball and get all your old Cd's you've received in the mail and super glue them to the ballUse the shinier sideThey should make a pretty good disco ball.
Try a cylindrical shaped laundry basketCut a hole in it and place it over your head and add a sheet decked out with mirror chips.or plastic mirrored discsIt might help to spray paint the sheet gray or silverWear a gray or silver hat and gray tightsNot sure if this will work, but it is worth a tryEdit- many craft stores sell tiny mirrored discs that are smooth with no rough edges, or you can pick up the kind that are silver plastic at most craft stores tooGood Luck!
It sounds like the basement and main floor are both heatedPuting insulation into the ceiling would not thermally accomplish anythingIf you put it in for soundproofing value, make sure it does not have a vapor barrierFor noise reduction, wallboard and heavy ceiling tiles both work wellIf you are going to be using power saws down there, they will be heard upstairs.
