the only true definition i understand is that the defensive player cannot deny the offensive player the opportunity to catch the ball, holding, illegal contact prior to the ball getting to him, but when the ball is in the air both legally have right for the ball. But since in your situation the db or cb or saftey wasnt turned around playing for the ball, and he didnt interferre with that wr opportunity to make a catch again, no contact was made, therefore this was a legal play.
